Our New Stockings

When Ryan and I were married (almost ) 5 years ago, We bought most of our Christmas decorations on clearance. We found stocking for the two of us that we just loved, but now we can't find stockings that match. Now we have a little girl and a puppy and we want nice stockings for them. So, instead of buying new ones, I found a tutorial on pinterst and made these beauties! One is for our 3 year old and the other is for our Puppy, Millie.
I have a friend who has an embroidery business out of her home and she whipped these up for us. I absolutely LOVE how they turned out. If any of you need any embroidery work done, she's your gal! She did a really good job!

In our family room, we have our stocking hung under or small tree we love how they look!

I've been working on a few other projects, but their Christmas presents so I can't share them yet.
I hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Little Mermaid Hair Clip

My Little Munchkin is a purple wearing, skirt loving, princess fanatic! I love her to pieces and most of my pinterest pins are, of course, for her! The other day, I saw this tutorial on how to make a Little Mermaid hair clip I had to at least try it. I have never made nor have I attempted to make a bow or clip or anything because, honestly, I was afraid of messing up. Well at Joanns it was "coupon commotion" and I had all these 50% & 40% off coupons that I could use so I went over and bought all the ribbon, clips, glue/glue gun, and more ribbon for a future project. Money-wise-i ended up doing pretty well because I used a coupon for every item i purchased (yay)

....anyway...my hair clip turned out OK...I'm not 100% happy with it, but I did an okay job. Keep in mind I've NEVER used a glue gun either....man that stuff it tricky. Speaking of which, any tips on how to get it off of my kitchen table?

I do have another project or two in the works that involves ribbon and alligator clips, please wish me luck!

My Sewing Sabbatical

I honestly don't know if anyone follows this or not. But if there is anyone and you've been wondering where on earth all my sewing projects have been join the club...so do I! Since making the curtains for Annalyse's room & our bathroom, I haven't sewn anything unless you count reparing the Lorax's missing fingers that our new dog, Millie, chewed off. Everyone knows performing surgry on stuffed animals is every mom's speciality. I recall my little brother's beloved stuffed monkey "Tom" had countless surgries and my Mom scrubbed in everytime. I think that the monkey is still around. Hopefully the Lorax will have the same fate.

I have made aprons for all of my nieces and nephews for their birthdays and I definately need to make a post about those sometimes :)

Anyway-I DO have a few projects in the works.
Until then...

Diaper Clutch

When I first became a Mommy to my beautiful little girl, I proudly carried my overstuffed diaper bag everywhere...with more than enough diapers to diaper an army and probably even more wipes. Well times have definitely changed...I still carry the diaper bag around for longer errands but there are often times I just throw a couple of diapers in with the Library bag or the church bag (shown below). In our church bag, the diapers get scrunched and there are always snacks loose in side the bag (i don't want to imagine what goldsfish crumbs would feel like a little tush) So while skimming Pinterest, I found this diaper clutch tutorial and really liked it and so I whipped it up this evening! It was really easy.

I am really excited to have this ready to go when I need it on Library day and Sundays. The clutch isn't too big...it only holds about 2-3 diapers+a travel wipes container but with a toddler that (hopefully) should be potty training in the somewhat near future its not a problem with the quicker errands.

Rollin' it Up...a crayon roll

So I'm a practical use kind of sewer...I love making things that I or other people will want to use. Things that will cure everyday headaches. One thing I hate is having a diaper bag or church bag full of ziploc bags for snacks, crayons, quiet toys etc. those ziplocs always end up with holes or being spilt. I found a crayon roll tutorial on pinterest when i first joined and in the back of my head I've wanted to sit down and make it. An opportunity came to me last night to be able to sit down and measure, cut and sew this baby up....I tweaked mine a little to match what I had on hand....

I kept the same dimensions as the tutorial but omitted the flannel and chose to use scrap bias tape instead of a hair band and a button (i felt buttons and munchkins aren't a good match). My outside fabric is actually an old pair of jeans, the inside fabrics are from projects of old. Not bad for a bunch of scraps eh? One thing i did do (which probably wasn't necessary) was add some interfacing behind the bottom (light pink) fabric for a little stability.

I Love how it turned out....and because I used the interfacing, the crayons are nice and snug in there and won't easily fall out.

Christmas Projects...I know its a little late!

I know I said I’d post about my Christmas presents for 2011 and I just haven’t gotten around to it...my many, many apologizes!
First Things first…If you don’t know yet I’ve discovered Pinterest and I LOVE it. I love being able to keep track of my “I’ll try to make this someday” tutorials without having to have tons of favorites. So if you don’t have pinterest…you should! Now, back to my projects:

Aprons:
I made 2 aprons this year using a pattern from a book Ryan got me for my birthday last year. I love how they turned out. I forgot to take photos before giving them out (I know stupid!) But these were made for 2 of my sister in laws that I got in the sibling gift exchange. So the photos are of them sporting them. I loved this pattern and there are definatly similar aprons in my future.

Luna’s Dressed up Onesie:
I dressed up 3 of them…one with an “L” appliqué, a Ruffle bum (using premade ruffle material), and a onesie dress (I had a few problems with the dresss...ruffles will be the end of my...i can't seem to figure them out). I had to get a photo of Luna wearing at least one of them because she's so stinking cute!

Pillowcase Dresses:
I made a pillowcase dress & a matching headband for my nieces Emma and Kirsten. The girls are close together in ages and like a lot of the same things so as I’m making them stuff it’s hard not to make them the same thing. Our Christmas was kinda crazy and hectic so I didn't get pictures of the girls with their dresses on.

I also made a couple of Rice Bags to warm up in the microwave for a white elephant gift exchange, but i didn't take photos of that either :(
